Artist Statement

The definition of consumption is a progressive wasting away of the body.  Think about how much food you consume in one day.  Now think about where that food comes from. The photos in Uncooked Carcass deal with the issues of consumption, survival, death, and memory.

The goal of this series is to acknowledge the aesthetics of processed meat and to remember the before and after of meat consumption.  The uncooked meat represents what we consume and the carcass or skeleton represents the life of a once living animal.  Meat consumption is a privilege human beings take for granted on a daily basis and this body of work represents that privilege and reflects on what meat originally was.
