Artist Statement

The Gap is a 12 photo diptych series of a dozen women proudly showcasing the space or lack thereof between their thighs. This area on a woman’s body has been idealized for decades. Many women are under the impression that if they don’t have a gap then their bodies are undesirable. Societal standards have created the illusion of the perfect female body. This standard gets passed down from generation to generation and continues to cloud the self-esteem of today’s young women. I wanted to create a series where women could openly be proud of their non-gap and show that we should no longer be subjected to a societal gaze.
